The Daudson's DSA Shooter (Made in Pakistan) being reviewed here is around three years old, it came with a spare pistol grip as well as a 28" barrel in addition to the 22" one, has seen around 500 cartridges shot through it, hundred of which were for the purpose of this review and has been give it's fair share of abuse by yours truly during the last 18 months. This means, that the gun being reviewed here is NOT NEW and the reader should keep this in mind while judging the quality and finishing visible from the pictures given in the review below.

Here is a review and range report of this pump action.

REVIEW

INTRODUCTION

The Daudsons DSA Shooter offers us something that really matters to most real-world shooters: Value. Value meaning something that works well and costs less than it's worth.

Now some (ofcourse, not you) shot-gunners who read this might go yada yada yada about how 'cheap' this gun is and it's 'local / Pakistani', well, they can go ahead and use their "collector's model", artist engraved, sleek, precision, blah blah blah PKR 100,000 plus guns. I'll just keep blasting away with my PKR 20,000 DSA Shooter. As will numerous other shooters who have discovered this attractive, durable, and dependable pump shotgun.

The DSA Shooter is a mil-spec manufactured shotgun, which means that it is not like a collector's "finely tuned" gun, but has been produced to military specifications which emphasize generous tolerance, durability and dependability.

BUILD QUALITY & FINISHING

BUILD QUALITY

Their receivers are manufactured using CNC machines, out of aircraft grade aluminum. The barrels are made using virgin 4140 chrome-moly steel bars. The synthetic parts are not made of impact resistant polymide instead of plastic. The bolt and firing pin are heat treated, the barrels are hard chromed (not just chromed) and the barrels are also powder coated instead of the general third world bluing/browning which we see on so many other local versions. The gun is nitro-proofed.

FINISHING

Finishing of DSA Shooter is not up to the mark IMO and Daudsons have a long way to go in this area.

External metal parts are electro-statically painted, however, I have observed that this paint starts chipping off (flakes) after around 200 shots.

RELIABILITY

Oh it is damn reliable !!!

On two different occasions at the range, me, MR and Shariq (all TGF members) tried to test it's reliability and we fired around 150 shots and 100 shots in these two sessions respectively without giving the gun time to cool down. The first occasion involved pattern and spread testing as well as reliability testing while on the second occasion, the gun was being used for skeet and competing reasonably well with Baikal MP153 and Winchester 1300. MR was the best scorer in that skeet competition (if you want to call it that) using the Shooter and there was not a single hiccup during the several rounds he fired. Ofcourse, on both occasions, the barrel was hot like anything, but the Shooter just kept firing.

SUITABILITY OF PURPOSE

The DSA Shooter is a versatile shotgun on the market with three interchangeable barrels options of 18", 22" and 28", that allows the owner to enjoy clay shooting, hunting and SD/HD use all at the same time without buying three separate guns. This is extremely important to the average hunter and shooter who is not wealthy. And the best part is that this gun will keep on shooting due to the attention to the manufacturing particulars that matter and as already highlighted above.

SAFETY

The gun has a safety on the top of the gun at the back near the stock where it can be quickly accessed with your strong hand thumb while your hand is in the shooting position.

RECOIL

Recoil with this shotgun is average for a 12 gauge which means that shooting a hundred or so rounds gives you a satisfyingly sore shoulder. As far as speed goes, the gun is as fast as any pump, and dependable.

PACKING

It comes in the box with a spare pistol grip and an extra 28" barrel. There are no chokes.

MAINTENANCE

Assembly and disassembly is very easy. Cleaning the Shooter after each shooting session taken hardly 15 minutes.

FORE-END, PISTOL GRIP AND BUTT STOCK

Fore-end, pistol grip and butt are made of high impact / high strength polymer. Though they don't feel very good, but are made to take and withstand abuse in the field.

CONCLUSION:

Based on my personal experience of using the DSA Shooter over the last 18 months, I have found it to be a shotgun that is dependable and durable, manufactured by military specific standards. It is a fun, worry free gun that is a load of fun to shoot clays or hunt with. Almost every major city of Pakistan has trained gunsmiths who can work on your Shooter for a miniscule fee. Then, you only have to pay about PKR 20,000 to 25,000 for one new in the box. That means you have the added benefit of being able to throw it in the back of your car, lay it down in the field, drop it and not worry about damaging it. And that, my friends, is worth a lot.

Thanks for a very comprehensive review of one of the best made local guns. I agree with MR on finish of the gun. However, I have noticed that the latest DSA guns are very well finished. In fact, till few days back, I did not know that DSA is manufacturing custom made shotgun which cost around 15-20 times the price of DSA Shooter :o

Thanks again for the wonderful review :text-bravo:

Great review SA. Fair remarks on finishing, I agree 100% and I also fully agree with the conclusion. It is a very reliable shotgun and in 20k offers great value for hard earned money.

Keep up the good work.

Its factory price now is 22k. Dealer price would be obviously more. I don't think it can compete with Turkish offerings at cost to cost basis as their price starts from 26k in Khi.
IMO its exterior finish is terrible and not at all durable. I'll soon post pics of different Shooters in field use. You'll not believe how bad they look after just months of use.

Regarding the finish on shooter, I have some experience with powder coating and i have seen how its done. The metal preparation is key to a good long lasting finish. If the metal parts are sand blasted prior to coating the finish wil not wear off even in the harshest of conditions. My father once was testing the powder coating on a sand blasted aluminum plate, he scratched the paint with a scribber, yes there were lines all over the plate but not one peice of paint chipped off.

BTW the shotgun me and MR got from darra has a sandblasted and powder coated receiver.

Yaar we are waiting for some eye-candy on those two beauties you got tailor-made. When do we get to see a review on it? :)

Maybe, we can leave the review and range report for MR to submit, but at least a small teaser should come from your side bro ;)

Quite right and at the same time if someone shoots regularly and hopefully would shoot quite a few boxes every month(range shooter) or would shoot quite a few boxes every year(a hunter) should invest on a better finished gun as cost of the fired ammo would be many times the price of this gun. If someone could spend so much on shooting why shouldn't one spend on a quality weapon. Even this test consumed ammo that was half of this guns price.

Absolutely. In my view, DSA Shooter is good enough if the purpose is HD because it wont be used much there and as we know, its quite reliable. However, if the purpose is hunting or sport shooting, one should invest in a better gun. :)
