The objective of this forum is to share articles and videos available online at various sites with TGF Members. While doing so, the following rules are to be observed:

1) Articles should not be reproduced entirely. Rather, an excerpt should be reproduced and a hotlink to the source website should be given in addition to mentioning the name of the original author and name of the source website..

2) Video links should be posted under an appropriate heading which clarifies what the video is about.

3) Do not post videos which contain PB nature content or which are irrelevant to Guns and Ammunition are related matters.

If the management is ok with it, I recommend that the Moderators should pick up relevant threads / posts from this videos & articles forum and then post them in the respective threads in handguns, rifles, shotguns, maintenance, ammunition, etc forums as are relevant and related thereto.

I agree. I think some of these videos would be better placed in their respective threads. We can give then captions like "Gun Cleaning Videos from the Web", "Web articles / Videos on Tactical Shooting" etc etc. Once a thread is open, others may also post articles / videos in the same thread and make it more comprehensive :)

I would always suggest for articles to be posted in relevant sections i.e handgun article in handgun section etc.
However, will also keep an eye here.

@ SA - Assalam-o-Alaikum!

I take it that TGF rules at this time do not support embedding videos - ex: YouTube clips relevant to Sports Shooting/Hunting etc?

May I suggest that your team explore the feasibility of enabling the feature provided of course that it won't create additional/unnecessary chores pertinent to Admin/Mod functions. :)

Thanks,

AA

AA bro, I think there is no restriction of quoting any video links ex youtube on TGF, till the time the source is properly quoted. What videos you are referring to exactly....

@ KBW - Assalam-o-Alaikum!

I did not have any specific video(s) in mind......was thinking in general more along the lines of member ability to embed a video clip directly when creating a post/thread instead of simply pasting a URL pointing to such video.

The advantage is that the functionality will allow the forum viewers to watch an embedded clip inside the same post/thread without having to leave the page. It is the Webmaster or someone from Admin who has to enable the feature on a site.....I believe that is currently disabled here at TGF perhaps due to forum policy. Most forums do have that enabled, well, at least the ones that I frequent. :)

Wa alaykum Asslam AA bro,
I am not aware of any such forum policy which restricts embedding of youtube movies (Mods, please correct me if I am wrong). Regarding the technical thing, I have no idea. I think SA is the best person to answer this.......

I think the forum server gets heavy if the embedded videos are allowed, hence slowing speed.

And I think I remember SA saying something about disabling it.

Anyways, SA can get the IT guy and tell us if it is possible without overloading the server!

Thank you for your input AA. We always appreciate suggestions for improvement and believe in "continuous improvement".

The embedded video is on the To-Do List, but we have delayed it till September-end since we plan to move to another server by then. This feature addition along with other upgrades/mods will be done thereafter.

Please continue sending in your suggestions.

Quote:
Simply, you have to use JAVASCRIPT to extract the video code from the youtube url.
I use the Split() function, which searches for the "?v=" string, splitting the URL in two parts. The second part obviously contains the video Code.
At last, I use "document.write()" to write the resulting embed code, with the video code in the right position, resulting in the video being published correctly.
That's all folks, enjoy.

BBCODE:
[youtube]{URL}[/youtube]

? ? ? ? ?

Can any one help me out here ?

@SA
you will have to update software to accept youtube video code, just like it is for images etc.

[youtube]video code comes here [/youtube]

You can start here:

How to embed youtube videos in phpBB

Try this:

I figured it out. Looked through all the other youtube bb code threads, couldn't get anything to work really, so I just tried this:

YOUTUBE:
BB Code:

Code: Select all
[youtube]<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/{SIMPLETEXT}"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/{SIMPLETEXT}" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>[/youtube]

HTML Replacement:

Code: Select all
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/{SIMPLETEXT}"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/{SIMPLETEXT}" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

This allows you to embed youtube videos just like you used to. Just copy the EMBED code off the actual youtube page and paste it within the [youtube][/youtube]

@Zaheer
That is after SA has made changes in software coding, for which he has to call IT team.
