Hello everyone,

I am writing on this forum after a very long time. Infact I havn't written on any forum in a very long time... my scribbling skills feel a little rusty but lets see how this one goes...

After much hustle and bustle I for the second time decided to purchase Gamo Shadow 1000, why? well few are my observations below:

This is the best possible package in it's price. I got my Gamo Shadow for 15k about a month back, currently prices in Karachi are 13.5k and in Peshawar 10k. Those in Peshawar as always are enjoying the best weapon rates as compared to anywhere else in the country

This gun is amazingly accurate. You shall observe once I`'ll start sharing the groups I have got from this gun. I know a very very senior airgun shooter who moved from Gamo to X to Y to Z and then in the end his verdict was that Gamo Shadow is all that any airgunner (springer) should ever need. (anyhow, everybody has the right to disagree, that was his own personal opinion)

Gamo Shadow is capable of delivering up to 16.3 foot pounds of Energy (approx. 690fps with Gamo Promag pellets) which make it a strong enough airgun for bird and small game hunting from ranges up to 50 meters (that's the farthest that I have tried my Shadow, it might be capable of doing more)

Even though this airgun might look very feeble but it's not. The Gamo Shadow is quite durable and capable of taking much abuse

One of the best features of this airgun is that it's only 2.8 kgs, making it the lightest airgun available in the medium powered airguns Category (Even the Panther series of Dianna weights 3.3 kgs). This light weight makes this Airgun extremely practical and convenient in outdoor hunting

The size of this airgun is just perfect, not too long or not too short to make it look like a toy (this basically means that a person of any size can handle this gun... tall, medium or short and also conviniet to carry around in car, in the long run such factors do matter)

Another reason, love the way this gun looks... I think it's simply beautiful

Anyhow, Stay tuned guys... I will be posting more about my Gamo Shadow very soon...

Welcome back bro, nice to see you around. Well one thing I must share about this airgun is that all metallic parts pick rust very quickly so everyone have this airgun must keep checking regularly and carefully clean your finger marks that leaves a layer of moisture on berral and apply WD40 after each use and keep checking so often even not used.

Hammer... very rightly said... Well I had taken out a technique to handle that... Buy a Shoe Shinner and with a piece of cloth, clean out all the liquid / fluid on the sponge.. Once it's clean enough then spray NASA on it. After every use of airgun clean it with a piece of cloth and then rub this sponge over it to apply a very thin and even layer of Oil all over the weapon for complete protection.

A piece of advice, as long as you are cleaning this rifle once every 2 weeks at least ( Ideally you should clean every week), it is never going to rust but if you are going to leave it un attended for 2-3 months, then the metal parts of the gun are going to start rusting.

Thanks for sharing. Looks pretty accurate!
I also need an airgun. Might opt for gamo whisper.

Thankyou Saif..... Well between Shadow and Whisper, I would recommend the Shadow because the only difference is that of muzzle break and stock

I think you should get it for 17.5k or so...that's the best possible price for it I think

I did some shooting at 30 meters on the beach last Saturday. Below are the groups from 30 meters (benched) from my Gamo shadow using H&N ftt pellets .... Please note that my airgun has been zeroed at 15 meters so there's a slight drop in POI .... Due to wind at the beach my POI was also shifting towards the right...the varying wind spoilt some of my really good groups...but oh well, life's not fair....Below are shots from 30 meters and each group is 5 pellets...

Okay now to share the 50 Meter results... Below is the picture of group I got using my Gamo shadow (benched), H&N ftt pellets .... I was aiming with -2y mil dot at the red marked x to get the shots on bullseye. All measuring of distance was done manually with tape and with no chance of error....

Anyhow I also did another experiment...I wanted to check the force of pellet at 50 meters so I found a glass bottle...shot it from 50 and it exploded beautifully...Below is a pic of the bottle too... And yes before anyone raises a finger at me, I did clean up the glass and didn't leave the mess behind...

Hehehehe... I am trying my level best to advocate what the Gamo Shadow 1000 is capable of delivering... There's a reason why Gamo has put if off its list from many years.. Gamo Shadow started cannibalizing sales of their more expensive yet same powered models.

Anyhow, I finally managed to get a 0.25 inch group from my Shadow at 15 meters using H&N pellets, benched position. However I do think that the zero of my scope has shifted. A friend of mine was checking out my rifle and he didn't realize but he put some pressure on the scope with his hand. Anyhow, I`ll be shooting some more groups soon and that should clear out things:

Alrighty Guys, did some working today... wanted to check out the fpe that my Gamo shadow is delivering at the moment. I used the android app chrono connect for readings: Pellets used were Gamo Promag and H&N ftt. Below are the results driven from 10 shots of each pellet

Gamo Promag (15.43 grains)
Max fps: 700
Min: fps: 680
Avg fpe: 16.20

H&N ftt (14.66 grains)
Max fps: 712
Min fps: 686
Avg fpe: 16.15

So to conclude, this gun as anticipated is a 16 fpe medium powered airgun. The spread on every is between 15.75 to 16.22 fpe. So far I have shot about 600-700 shots from my airgun so I think this was the right time to check the energy being delivered. This gun is good to go for small game hunting up to 50 yards.

@ Deathrow, thanks for the detailed report. The Gamo Shadow is a good gun indeed. And it can't get any cheaper. You are shooting really tight groups.

@ Saif, I believe the Noise dampener on the Whisper is more of a marketing gimmick. The main noise in case of an air gun comes from the spring itself and the dampener does not in ayway help in reducing that sound. Go for either.

Many thanks Six_shooter... and I agree about your recommendation about the Whisper-X, its pretty much a marketing gimmick..

Deathrow,

While these targets, which you've posted, show the accuracy potential of a Gamo Shadow, they also highlight your rifle marksmanship skills, which I must say, are impressive. :)

Air Rifles are an excellent platform to start learning the basics of rifle marksmanship.

Thanks for sharing DR.

SA.... thanks, and good to hear from you... and your statement about Air Rifles being an excellent platform to start learning the basics of rifle marksmenship, I remember you telling me the same in the Bus ride on our way back from Charna island..

Inspired from our conversation that day, I got my self a Hatsan Mod99 but for various reasons I didn't like it much so I sold it and got my self a Shadow again.... Ideally I would have liked to go for a Dianna but due to budget constraints and also the benefits that shadow offers, I thought there could not have been a better choice at this time...

I agree with the Shadow being a better choice at this point of time. Do plan to move on to a .22lr rifle in the next 12 months, ISA :)
