I am terribly worried about this news I am afraid its the legal weapon owners who will face the brunt of this law if passed. Any thoughts?

Previously issued licenses will be scrutinized-Supremecourt

http://www.thenews.com.pk/article-72741 ... -scolds-AG

An excerpt from the news:
Justice Anwar said that thousands of weapons holders have by now died, but their licenses are under use—issue advertisements for registering the weapons licenses—the licenses not registered in six month should be cancelled or imposed penalty. The quota of issuance of weapons’ 200 licenses to MPA and 300 to MNA is corruption—these people want to get their vote bank strengthened by issuing licenses—here murderers of 8/10 persons have also been issued licenses for weapons.

Additional chief secretary home, Wasim Ahmad told the court that chief minister’s weapon quota is unlimited.

I think they are getting these Glocks US $ 350 a piece, all included, ie. Pkr 32500/-. On this price, I would like to buy all models of Glock in this price :shifty:

If on Govt. level they can buy at US$350 then why Arms importers cannot import around these prices for civilian use? What type of embargo is this?

Certain tax exemptions and bulk orders help bring the cost down, I guess. Also lots of under-invoicing.

@Asif Ali bro, that is what a Glock costs to dealers when they import it for the LEAs, and a few extra pieces are then floated in the market for general public @ 10 times the cost. Even if duties are applied, it would still cost around PKR 60-65k.

Saif Bro. Question is that if embargo is there then how LEAs are getting Glock? There would be someway to get it at lower price for civilian use! Also embargo is from US import, why not dealers get it from Austria directly at much lower cost?

Regarding the duties.
Whan a Govt Department imports weapons, they ARE NOT free of duty. There are certain duties which are relaxed but few duties they still have to pay. More importantly, the duties that are to be paid in the exporting country remain the same. Similarly, the freight charges are also the same the only difference being a bulk or a small order which changes the amount. All LEAs import weapons "through" a dealer. They are not authorized to import these things at their own. So the entire difference in a civilian and LEA sale is just few duties and a difference in freight charges due to bulk order or small order. This difference can take the price from 32.5k to 40k or 45k or may be 50k but not at all to 350 k.

Dealers just make an IDIOT out of us. And we allow them to do that...... being "Gun Enthusiasts".

Now, please relate it to the price of Caracal. That was the reason that I used to say that even at 65k, dealer are getting good profit and still have the margin to come down. But they seem to have decided that they wont come below 65 k though they still can. May be setting a price of 150 k initially was with the purpose of taming buyers mind that when the same gun is sold at 70 or 65 k, the buyers feels as if he is getting this gun for free and does not hesitate in paying the money :)

A very nicely explained post by KBW , but my question is the same as asked by Asif Ali bhai that in generally Arms Embargo is supposed to be effective to both Government and civilian imports then how come KPK police chief can directly import it from the manufacturer ?

Mian Jee +1

Apparently if we make our mind about not buying expensive weapons like glocks until dealers are ready to sell them at a reasonable rate. Then perhaps glocks would take over the market by storm.
