Most new shooters at range ask the same question. Considering the options available in Pakistan, which handgun is most suited for both SD and Range use? I am not an expert but IMO an adjustable sights and a smooth trigger are a must for stated purpose. CZ-75 SP 01 Shadow with after market adjustable sights would be my first recommendation. If adjustable sights can not be arranged then CZ-85 Combat and Taurus PT 99 are other options to consider. Guys what are your views.

I am not an expert and Haven't used myself, but have seen shooters getting good results on range using CZ 75B Stainless and CZ 75B Special edition and because of their slim profile both guns are equally suited for SD. I myself use a Shadow.

I concur, I think Angus Hobdell & Adam Tyc has done a great job by removing the firings pin lock, resulting in extremely precise and predictable trigger. All metal shadow does feel heavy, but reduces the recoil. I too own the shadow in two tone.

@ HMR can u recommend a gun for SD without firing pin block ?
Whay u say about only SP01 for range and SD use ? Full size gun with firing pin block.

SR I reiterate that I am not an expert but I have no issues with a Shadow for SD. I have carried a Mak and TT-33 without any apprehensions. SP-01 with adjustable sights is a fine compromise but I would prefer 85 or Shadow more.

A review of a modified and an unmodified CZ-85 Combat will help members to take a better decision. I'll do it in few days.

CZ-75 SP 01 Shadow all the way. SD or range practice, if pocket can allow, its the best option available... Otherwise, I have come to the conclusion using CF-98 that its the shooter rather than the gun. I have been making groups between 2 - 5 inches groups regularly at 25 meters with a stock CF-98, and I use it for CC all the time. However, having said this, Shadow is still a dream gun for me and cum August I'll have my black beauty inshaAllah Cheers...

I believe the best handgun for range and/or SD is the one you feel comfortable with.

If its about Range and HD, then Taurus PT 99 is a very good choice. Only shortcoming is SD department where its really hard to conceal owing its full size.

I think Shadow, CZ75 are good options in mid budget I have seen DF shooting good groups with shadow and I own CZ75 its working great at range and as CC never had any problem. In low budget I will always go for CF-98 its the best.

I would like to have opinion of all the seniors on carrying .22 caliber pistol as a primary CC weapon.

IMO an adjustable sight is must if we want to excel in deliberate shooting discipline. Its really difficult to aim off center to score 10s. For learning of bacis any gun can be used.

SD and Range Practice.
I believe 25M is the limit for both aspects. Hence pretty much any gun that is well zeroed will work fine for both purposes. However, if one wants to continue further into competitions or go for precision shooting elite club, then an adjustable rear sight would become a requirement.
Under 50K budget: CF-98 has no match... Under 100K budget: CZ offers a variety of guns, depending on person to person and the feel of the gun, one can easily choose...
As brother 6s mentioned - best gun is what one feels comfortable with...
Cheers...

Coming back to the topic...SD & range use.... In SD situation, one is mostly in panic state, adrenaline rush, correct response is desirable in milli second etc etc. The only way I learned is to 'know' your weapon. Your gun should be an extension of your limb, and it's operation should be a spinal reflex. Hence which ever piece you pick, you have to practice, practice and practice. It's difficult to answer your question. For SD it is recommended to have a light weight compact barrel fool proof type of gun, eg. Glock, Smith & Wesson, CZ duty. For range practice (good groups) considers CZ sp01 shadow (out of the box) amazing results, but at the cost of full length barrel & more weight. It has to be a compromise between two different applications/weapons. My 2 cents

@SR- can we request Piranha on ASCCL for a review by seniors. Its a medium budget gun and if it scored good will help members to go for it as their multipurpose gun. Thnx.

Piranha is a wonderful gun; however, its very hard to find in Karachi market. Finding Piranha NIB probability is between none to very very low. What about the models of Canik which are currently available in market.

One must search and spend time for a range Gun but for SD any 9mm with at least 15 rds capacity with a good reputation will be Ok

IMHO majority SD scenarios involve less than 5 shots aimed under 10 meters. 9 mm is a definite must have; however, the gun should be reliable and trustworthy. That way Revolvers are also suitable considering their reliability.
