With an increasing interest in outdoor activities and discussion on camping gear.
I felt the need to discuss about
PARACORD 550 on TGF.

Image

This item has made its way from Parachute rope to a must have for every outdoors man and even in everyday uses such as wrist bands and waist belts.

On TGF I believe we must try to cover this item in a much deeper way.....

I am particularly interested in Survival bands of paracord 550..... Imagine the usefulness of a 24 Feet rope carefully made into 7-8 inches of a wrist band.

I strongly urge members to Share their knowledge about paracord knots (How they are made) and related products so that most of us can benefit from it. this can include vidoe links to tutorials and even PDF documents.

How to make Paracord Bracelet
A step by step instruction

Source:http://www.instructables.com/id/Paracord-Bracelet-Instructions

Step 1.
Attach the Paracord to the to the buckles like in the picture below. Then measure it on your wrist to make sure your Parachute cord bracelet will be the right size.

Image

Step 2.
Bring the first piece of Paracord across the center of the bracelet. Note, This will be the center color of the bracelet, and continue the Paracord Bracelet Instructions.

Image

Step 3.
Now take the other piece of paracord, and bring it over the top of the first piece, around the backside, and up through the hole made by the first piece of paracord. Then pull the Paracord braid tight evenly.

Image

Step 4.
Now continue the paracord bracelet instructions, bring the first piece of Paracord across the front, lay the second piece of Paracord over the top of the first piece, around the back of the Paracord Bracelet, and bring it up through the hole made by the first piece of Paracord. Then pull the Paracord knots tight.

Step5.
Continue braiding the Paracord, until you reach the other buckle following these instructions, Bring the first piece of Paracord across, and wrap the second piece of Paracord over the top of the first piece, then around the back of the Paracord Bracelet, and bring it up through the hole made by the first piece of Paracord.

Step 6.
Your Paracord Bracelet is almost complete, just cut the ends, and melt them with a lighter. If you have a Paracord Needle, run the ends back into the weave, then cut and melt. Your Paracord Bracelet should look like the picture below, This Paracord Bracelet was made with a Tracer.

Similar Cord is available in Kemari @ PKR 40/M in Navy Green Color and the shopkeeper was claiming that it's made of military specs having strength of 400Kg.

So, who is taking charge to do the honor in presenting first sample :text-feedback:

That claim came from the shopkeeper selling a similar cord and he didnot claimed it paracord as well. The cord he was selling is more or less same which we have on our JK. Skywatcher would definately be a help in getting more details from the person and Kemari is his hunting ground as well.

For sure its not paracord but a cord with high strength and this is the reson of mentioning as "similar"

Please drop him a PM if further assistance is needed.

NR, Maybe we can do a test on this cord to check out its strength and post a review here..? Should be an interesting project...?

Dear all. The paracord available in Keamari is made in USA and is 7 strings military grade (5 strings are Civilian grade). They come in various colour and sizes. Here are the pictures of military grade paracord availavble in Keamari for Rs: 1200 per packet (asking) or 40 Rs per metre.

This one is used for survival It can be used in many ways i.e it has 7 string which can be used to make noose or trap to catch animals or use the string with fishing hook to catch some fish etc etc.

This one is for Mountaineering purpose and the Roll is available for Rs: 8000 (asking) country of origin USA.

Skywatcher, I so want to try the endurance of two items:
1. The Eye protective googles, (put them on a water melon and shoot at them from 10 meters with an Airgun to see what happens)
2. Check the actual strength of the Paracord cable available (but how do we design the test? ) We don't have to go to the limit of 400kgs, if we can just manage to even prove it for 120kgs, I think all of us will be more than satisfied....

Both are interesting but we must be sure that both have 500 pound strength at least.

Now comes the part of learning the Cobra Knot which is a simple 7 inch band consisting of 24 feet of paracord. Are these available in black color.

Secondly What we now need to are hooks/buckles for paracord bracelet, ( stainless steel for first preference )

Guys have you every thought that the same rope as sold at 8000 rupees is also available in market in WEIGHT and not by length. The ropes that are used in ships are the same but not in so many colours as are available to mountain climbers.

Skywatcher... How do we test the rope with cars? How do we measure the tension created..? We need to be very precise about the tensile strength of the paracords available

Best is to use scale between two pieces of ropes and check the strength by tying other ends to cars or by pulling the ends manually IMHO.

In the mean time we can try finding best way.

SGS got all the equipment to test. If someone got reference in SGS, we can ask them to test the tensile strength.

Would be nice to see a rifle sling made out of paracord. If and when you do accomplish this, do share with us :)

Cheers...
