Well, I got it back out today...which turned out to be a terrible range day. Wind was gusting over 20 MPH, and my target stand kept blowing over, even with imitation sand bags on the legs. The chronograph was dead...I left it on. Whoops. That turned out to be a lot less important than I had thought, though.
The other powder my friend had sent me to try with this bullet was Unique, so using the Lyman data, here we go....and it went downhill from the first round.

^ That one is just...wow. Note the tape covered bullet shaped hole lower left...that belongs to this group. At this point I was ready to throw in the towel, BUT....BUT I had decided to use up the last 16 bullets he'd given me with a traditional rifle powder that I had a little left of, H4895. So, I reset the target stand, added rocks to the pile, aimed and fired...

I heard an angelic choir singing Queen's "We Are The Champions"....I was ready to give up on this combo, but it simply looks like this bullet HATES fast pistol powders, and would FAR prefer a slow rifle powder. I need to get some more of them and some more H4895.

I ran a few rounds through the SA vz-58, since it hadn't been fired in some time. Worked perfectly, but the wind was winning - I couldn't keep the stand up. Only thing I learned with only 18 rounds fired is the vz-58 really isn't "into" the Lee 155 grain cast slug.

So I picked up my toys and went home. A bad day at the range beays a good day at work. 8-)

It is surprising that the load prefers rifle powder over pistol powder. Too bad you couldn't practice more.

Not really, considering it is a rifle. ;) We were trying to "go cheap", as lighter charges of the more explosive pistol powders make the supply stretch farther. :)

Forecast for today, 6/22/2012, for my area is sunshine and about 108 degrees Fahrenheit. Same tomorrow. We'll start to see 110-114 in July.

Pretty much the same here with high humidity, making each range visit a tough proposition.
